Scott Larson

Like many high school students, I left high school without a clue as to what I wanted to do for a career. I enrolled the following year at Northern Illinois University. Near my dorm, I discovered the college radio station. Being a lifelong lover of music, I headed over and realized that it was as simple as volunteering and soon I had my own radio show playing my favorite music. Here, I met peers who told me about classes that I could take where I could make electronic music and video. I signed up for these classes as soon as I could and I was on my way. I had a major, Communications, with an emphasis on radio, TV and film.

After graduation, I moved to Chicago to pursue my dream of becoming a music producer. After a few months of searching for a job in the recording industry, I landed an internship at a recording studio. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out how I had planned and the job I had thought I had wanted wasn’t as interesting as I thought it would be. I took the money that I had saved and did some traveling in Europe and Central America. Upon my return, inspired by my travels, I decided that learning and then teaching Spanish would be the path for me. I received my Masters in Education from UIC. Soon after, I began teaching Spanish at Batavia. A few years later BATV, Batavia’s local access TV station, moved into the high school. The school administration decided to start up a media production class so that students could take advantage of all the opportunities BATV had to offer. I quickly volunteered to design and teach this class. Over the years, I transitioned from Spanish to teach multiple levels of video production. After a long road of exploration, I feel very fortunate to have found the job that I truly love.
